The oil that is extracted from these seeds can be used for margarine, varnishes and soaps. The sunflower seeds can be eaten raw or cooked, and they are a good source of potassium and phosphorous.

Health Tips

Snacking on protein-rich sunflower seeds may help lower your blood pressure. Recent research shows that a diet with ample amounts of vegetable protein, such as the protein found in sunflower seeds, may help keep blood pressure down. A diet high in animal protein offered no such benefit in the study. Stock up on sunflower seeds, cashews, and kidney beans to get your fill of blood pressure-lowering veggie protein.

“great”

, Wantagh, NY May 29, 2014

“I'm a life-long sunflower seed addict, which is why I order them 25 lbs. a a time :) Unshelling and consuming roasted sunflower seeds in a necessary component of my reading / tv watching leisure (some kind of a culturally developed oral fixation by this point, I'm sure.) I used to love the commercial salted/ flavored varieties, but that's just sodium overload for someone who puts away A LOT of these things every day. Also, finding sunflower seeds that are roasted just the way I like it has been a challenge. This is why these raw, sunflower seeds in shell are perfect for me: the quality is outstanding and I can roast them to my liking in just 10 minutes or less. These are just right: they are not too small, large and full but not obscenely large and are nice and nutty. To echo so many other reviewers on this site: this is the best quality product of its kind that I've come across. I have NEVER encountered any stale or rotten seeds in any of the multiple orders from Nuts.com -- and, believe me, that can be a big problem with some farmers' market sellers. This company does not only deliver a great product at quite reasonable prices but also a personalized and, dare I say, humane :) treatment of their customers, which is a nearly extinct practice these days. I recommend these guys to everyone!”
