Mushroom Popcorn Kernels
Mushroom popcorn kernels pop up until a beautifully large mushroom shape.
What is Mushroom Popcorn?
Mushroom popcorn kernels produce firm, round pieces of popcorn with a bit of chewiness. Mushroom popcorn is different from butterfly popcorn which is light and airy, and tends to pop into complicated shapes. Butterfly popcorn is often served in movie theaters, whereas mushroom popcorn is best suited for making kettle corn and other types of candied popcorn, since its round shape makes it ideal for coating in sugar and syrups.
Stove top directions: Preheat 3 tablespoons of oil in a deep pan on medium heat. The best oils to use have a high smoke-point (peanut oil, safflower oil, soy oil, sunflower oil, light olive oil, or coconut oil). When the oil is hot add 1/3c popcorn kernels. Put a lid on the pot and continue to move the pan, or stir the kernels, so that they do not burn. Cook for 2 1/2 min to 4 min or until the pops are 5 seconds apart.
Microwave directions: Mix 1/3 cup of popcorn with 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the kernel and oil mixture to a brown paper bag. Fold over the top of the bag two times and give it a good shake. Cook for 2 1/2 minutes or until the pops are 5 seconds apart.
Oil needs to reach 400 degrees or more to achieve mushroom shape. Oil not heated to the correct temperature will produce butterfly shaped corn.

“The Mushroom Popcorn kernels are far & away the best popcorn kernels we have ever purchased. Amazing, huge, delicious, yum, yum, yum! (and of course enough can't be said about the wonderful customer service at nuts.com!)”

“I received my cheddar powdered cheese and some mushroom popcorn. I was actually expecting just a plastic bag like the ones normally seen in bulk stores etc. and I was pleasantly surprised to get heavy duty packaging with zip closures for easy storing. The popcorn is Awesome!!! I made a batch for my children and sprinkled the cheese on it and they gobbled it right up. I do have to say I was unfamiliar making the mushroom breed of corn but after some research figured out what I was doing wrong. Oil needs to be super sizzling hot for the kernels to really get that burst. Hope this helps anyone who may have had a difficult time getting those nice big round pieces of yumalicious popcorn. :) I would also like to say thank you for the sample of chia seeds. I can't wait to try them in my cereal. ”

“Bought two pounds but I may end up getting a 25 pound case on a future purchase.
I made kettle corn for the first time last night and this is the kind of popcorn you want to use. Use a heavy pot 1/3 cup of popcorn with enough corn oil to cover and 1/4 sugar. Turn up the heat just enough to melt the sugar while you stir it with a wooden spoon. When it's dissolved crank up the heat and cover. When it stops popping dump it out and stir it to prevent clumps. A little salt and you're done!
I'll be making it for Christmas for the kids, but I may have to "experiment" a bit more. Might try it with brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon...
This is a great inexpensive treat! Giving the recipe to a summer camp!
Third order from NutsOnline and delivery was again under 24 hours. Ordered at 7PM and was at my doorstep by 3PM the next day!”

“OMG! All those years wasted eating store bought popcorn, I knew there was something better out there. Now I found it. Vary few unpopped unlike store brands. Also what few don't pop are perfect old maids!! I we love it, you won't be disappointed with this brand, you won't go back to store bought after you try this popcorn!!!!

“Been buying these from Nuts.com for several years, more kernels pop than "name brand" popcorn. Very fresh --I make it in my microwave by using a covered microwave pan and just wetting the kernels first for a 1/2 minute or so, then draining off any remaining water, adding the lid to the one qt sized container and if the lid lets off steam as mine does - then I put a facecloth over it to trap the steam and return it partially to the container which also adds some weight to the plastic container top so it doesn't "blow off" during the popping process. Works like a charm! Then I add pre-melted butter and sprinkle whatever else I want on my popcorn !”
