Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...Traditional fresh chestnuts. Everyone loves that delicious taste and unforgettable smell of fresh roasting chestnuts. These are the largest chestnuts grown, and are flown in from Italy.
***Approximately 20-25 in a pound***
To help preserve their freshness, your bag might arrive with little holes punched in them. This is normal and is done only to keep them fresh.
Chestnuts have a very high moisture content, and are extremely perishable. They must be stored under refrigeration in as close to freezing temperatures as possible. It is also recommended that they are stored with as high humidity as possible. If stored in this manner, they can stay fresh for a couple of weeks. We recommend storing the nuts in perforated plastic bags, or solid plastic bags that you've put some holes in. Place a damp paper towel in with them. To cook chestnuts, you can boil them or roast them. When roasting, cut a small slit in the chestnut to prevent them from exploding during the roasting process. Bake in the oven at 425 for 10-15 minutes or until the outer skin begins to peel back. You can also cook on the stove top or over an open flame.

“We were pleasantly surprised when the chestnuts arrived for New Years Eve, even though tracking said they would arrive January 2. We roasted them in a dutch oven over an 'open fire' in our fireplace and they were delightful. Sweet, plump and a nice large size. Thanks!”

“These are the chestnuts I remember from years back. In the recent years, store chestnuts have been old and after roasting you cannot get the skin off. These chestnuts are worth every penny and I can now totally agree with the other testimonials. I ordered 1 lb then re-ordered 3 more and now I'm ordering another. My father who is from Italy and is 89 years old couldn't stop bragging about these chestnuts... Please continue to provide these imported gems as the seasons allow.”

“The chestnuts I ordered are fantastic, delicious and very fresh. The mixed nuts are great but the pumpkin pie malted milk balls are out of this world. They were so good I took them to my sister-in-laws house so my wife and I would not eat them all in one go. The next day while visiting my sister-in-law I thought I would grab one or two of them only to find she and her family had eaten all but 7 or 8 of them. She did apologise but informed me they were so good none of them could resist!!!!”

“Tastiest chestnuts I've ever eaten!! Pistachios weren't bad either. Yippee!!”

“I love chestnuts, and grew up where we had chestnut trees and a nice crop every year. I had my share of sore fingers from the "burrs". That was long ago. I have bought chestnuts locally when they were available but they were small and by the time I got them, they were not too fresh...in fact the last 3 lbs. I bought were 95 % bad. I recently bought 6 lb's from NUTS ONLINE, and have not found one single bad one. They are fresh, large, meaty and have excellent taste. The shipping was very quick and the packaging was superb. Above all, the staff at NUTS ONLINE are very friendly and I'm very happy to now be one of the "nutty" customers of NUTS ONLINE.”

“I bought these around Christmas time to make stuffing. Since I moved back to an area that only offers chestnuts in the store in the early fall, I needed to find them somewhere -- or risk disappointing my husband. These were fresher, a little larger, toasted evenly, and there weren't as many "bad ones" that wouldn't peel.”
