Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...Traditional fresh chestnuts. Everyone loves that delicious taste and unforgettable smell of fresh roasting chestnuts. These are the largest chestnuts grown, and are flown in from Italy.
***Approximately 20-25 in a pound***
To help preserve their freshness, your bag might arrive with little holes punched in them. This is normal and is done only to keep them fresh.
Chestnuts have a very high moisture content, and are extremely perishable. They must be stored under refrigeration in as close to freezing temperatures as possible. It is also recommended that they are stored with as high humidity as possible. If stored in this manner, they can stay fresh for a couple of weeks. We recommend storing the nuts in perforated plastic bags, or solid plastic bags that you've put some holes in. Place a damp paper towel in with them. To cook chestnuts, you can boil them or roast them. When roasting, cut a small slit in the chestnut to prevent them from exploding during the roasting process. Bake in the oven at 425 for 10-15 minutes or until the outer skin begins to peel back. You can also cook on the stove top or over an open flame.

catherine, Falmouth, Maine December 7, 2009“Yes indeed the chestnuts were delivered today! Thanks so much for such prompt service. They are for my best friend who loves to roast them. She will be so surprised. So glad I found you guys.”
Charles, Peckville, Pa. December 1, 2009“I've had chestnuts all my life during the holidays, but they seem to be harder to find - at least good ones. I went on line the Friday before Thanksgiving and I took a shot, I ordered chestnuts on line (crazy, but I had nothing to lose). I received my order the very next Monday before the holiday. I had to try them. A one pound bag had approx. 25 nuts, I cooked them like I always do and to my surprize and pleasure, I was able to peel (outside and inside skin) with very little effort, and the chestnuts were great. Anybody who eats chestnuts knows that if you get all the nuts shelled without losing any it's quite an accomplishment in the chestnut eating world. I would just like to say thanks to nutsonline for making my holiday special again. Now I know I have a source for chestnuts I can count on in the future. cc ”
