How to Eat Goji Berries

Goji berries are delicious added to your cereal, trail mix, or yogurt. In their dried form, goji berries have a mild sweetness and are slightly chewy. Some folks like them reconstituted in hot water first. When the goji berry is reconstituted, it takes on a hearty sweetness. Goji berries can also be an unexpected addition to your soup and they make for a soothing drink when added to your tea.

Chef Joe of PBS's Taste This TV used our Goji berries to make Chocolate Covered Goji Berries, and he loved them!

Goji Berries: Health Bits & Bites

1. Goji berries are considered the world's most powerful anti-aging food. They're rated #1 on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, which measures the antioxidant level of foods. Goji berries contain 3x the antioxidants of pomegranates!

2. Goji berries contain 8 of the 9 essential amino acids and have 18 amino acids in total.

3. Goji berries contain more Vitamin C per ounce than oranges. Vitamin C is especially helpful in keeping a healthy immune system and cardiovascular health.

4. Goji berries may support your eyesight. Researchers from the University of Sydney found that taurine, a compound in goji berries, may be helpful in protecting eyes from diabetes-related vision loss. A February 2001 study published in Optometry and Vision Science found that goji berry supplementation may slow the progression of macular degeneration in elderly patients.

Goji Berries in History

Goji berries have been in use for at least the last 1,700 years. First used by the Tibetans in China, these berries have become a staple in not only in Eastern cuisine, but also Eastern medicine. Rumor has it that the goji berry was discovered by a doctor who was studying the longevity of a particular tribe in the Himalayas whose members consistently lived for more than 100 years, had no grey hair, and healthy teeth. The doctor came across the well that grew above goji vines that the inhabitants drank from. As the goji berries would ripen, they would fall into the well and their nutrients would dissolve into the water.

In Chinese mythology, goji berries are known as the fruit of immortality. Even today, Chinese medicine uses goji berries to treat liver, immune system, circulation problems, and more.

“Wonderful products, the Goji Berries are tops. I made a great/healthy trail mix with the products I ordered. Combine 1 part raisins, 1 part gold raisins, 2 parts dried unsweetened coconut, 2 parts Goji Berries, 2 parts raw unsalted pepitas. Very festive trail mix. I'm almost out, so I'll be placing another order soon.”

“Oh my gosh! I just tasted the goji berries that I purchased from you and am thrilled to find that they are wonderful. I started taking them for their wonderful nutritional properties, but was not thrilled with their flavor and texture but felt that I could still eat them for the benefit I will receive. Your goji berries are plump and delicious. Eating them is a pleasure. Thanks.”

“I tried rehydrating some of the Goji Berries. I boiled them for a few minutes, then placed them in a food processor to liquefy them. I got a very nice and thick puree that can be diluted with water to make a healthy juice that tastes great. I have been eating these berries for two days now and feel better already, so they really do help you feel better. Mother has been drinking the juice and she says that her eyes are feeling better already. The first Goji Berries I bought were very expensive from another site. When yours arrived, they were exactly the same berries as the more expensive ones and taste the same. I have reordered 4 more pounds of these Goji Berries from Nuts Online. The taste is somewhere between a dried cranberry and a toasted nut. It's not bad at all though, in case you are wondering. If they can make people feel better, more power to them to help us all. I just hope you keep plenty of them in stock for everyone who will order them now. I give them a five star rating.”

I spent a lot of money, but I also got a lot of delicious goodies on hand now for us to enjoy for a month. I couldn't believe how much was in those two orders. You will get a lot of goodies for your money, people, and these products are absolutely delicious! I can enjoy fruit and nuts and candy for a long time by ordering from Nuts Online. Thanks for caring about your customers and making delicious products. I love your Goji Berries. I read they would help just about anything wrong. So I am trying them to see if they help me with my depression. Goji Berries means happy berries. They say the only side effect is that you might want to smile all the time. That sounds great to me!”
