Our beloved grandfather, Poppy Sol, started this business in an open-air market. Three generations later, we’re still bringing smiles to our customers' faces.
Dried mission figs are a bit smaller and sweeter than the Calimyrna variety. Also known as Black mission figs, they have a deep purple skin that appears black when dried, and a slight pinkish hue on the inside. The name “mission figs” comes from the Franciscan missionaries who planted them throughout California in the late 18th century. Mission figs are an excellent source of fiber, potassium, and other minerals.
Health Benefits of Mission Figs
Mission figs are an excellent source of dietary fiber in both soluble and insoluble forms. A single serving of these delicious fruits provides 20 percent of the average person’s daily value for dietary fiber. As a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, mission figs offer many health benefits. The soluble fiber content helps lower LDL “bad” cholesterol levels and regulate blood sugar, while insoluble fiber keeps the digestive tract running smoothly. Fiber also slows the digestion of carbohydrates in the body, supporting the absorption of other key nutrients.
Chock-full of minerals like potassium, calcium, and iron, mission figs are a healthy treat all around. Potassium aids heart function by helping the heart beat normally, and regulates high blood pressure by keeping sodium levels in check. As a good source of calcium, mission figs provide a nutrient that promotes strong bones and teeth. Calcium needs to be obtained daily since our bodies do not produce it naturally. Mission figs are also high in iron, which helps the body form hemoglobin so that cells have enough oxygen to function.
Ways to Enjoy Mission Figs
A serving of mission figs is one of the healthiest ways to satisfy a sweet craving. We love enjoying this delicious dried fruit on its own, as well as adding it to some of our favorite recipes. The next time you’re entertaining guests, we recommend serving dried mission figs with other dried fruits, nuts, and cheese for an enticing appetizer platter. Try chopping a few figs and tossing them over salads and pastas. They’ll add a pleasant flavor and texture to your dishes. Mission figs are also delicious in baked treats such as breads, muffins, and scones.

“Hey you bunch of nuts,
our package just arrived (we're first time customers). YOU RUINED OUR STEAK DINNER TONIGHT!!! After opening the mission figs, mint malted milk balls and the free apricots you through in...we're stuffed. My wife and son love malted milk balls and son love mint also. Per those two...best they've ever had. I'm Sicilian on both sides of my family. I grow 5 different types of fig trees but needed dried ones for our annual Christmas fig cookies. WOW...in 50 years of buying dried figs for our holiday cookies...these are the best ever. I'm making those cookies early because the figs will all be gone in a few days if I don't. When I get the cookies completed, I'll send a vacuum packed bag to you and the rest of you bunch of nuts. If you like them, I'll send the recipe for your use or publication. Boy, those ribeye steaks sure looked good before your package so untimely arrived. Happy Holidays to all from a new satisfied customer...”
