Red beet powder can be used in gravies, sauces, soups, or to provide color in any recipe. These beets are dehydrated and then ground into a powder. Retaining all the protective nutrients of ripe beets, this powder is naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, and nitrate. There are no additives.
Taste and Uses of Beet Powder
Beet powder has a slightly sweet, earthy taste that can add a boost of nutrients to your recipes. Use a few teaspoons of the powder in sauces and salad dressings - one teaspoon of the powder is equivalent to one beet. Beet powder can also be used as an alternative food coloring in cakes and cupcakes to make them a bright red velvet color. Using cocoa in cake recipes will help subdue the beet's natural earthy flavor.
Health Benefits of Beet Powder
Our beet powder is loaded with the same potent vitamins, minerals, and nutrients as the red beets it comes from. Beetroot powder is rich in antioxidants, dietary fiber, calcium, iron, potassium, folate and manganese, along with other nutrients. Perhaps most remarkably, beets are naturally rich in nitrate, compounds that can improve blood flow and lower blood pressure, leading to notable health benefits.
1) Lowers Blood Pressure: Beet powder is a naturally rich source of nitrates, which the body converts into nitric oxide, a compound that relaxes and widens blood vessels to make it easier for the heart to pump blood. A 2013 study published in the journal Hypertension found that drinking beet root juice lowered systolic blood pressure (BP) in patients for 24 hours after consuming the juice. This BP-lowering effect was not observed in the control group which did not drink the juice.
2) Increases Brain Blood Flow: Another advantage of this nitrate-rich food is that it may be beneficial in treating degenerative diseases related to aging. Findings from a 2010 study published in the journal Nitric Oxide demonstrated that consuming a high nitrate diet increased blood flow to the frontal lobe in older adults. The frontal lobe is important for cognitive function, and is usually at risk in elderly patients who are susceptible to cognitive decline. This data suggests that consuming nitrate-rich foods may improve blood flow to areas of the brain that need it most.
3) Improve Exercise Endurance: Beet powder can help improve stamina so that you can power through your workouts for longer. A 2009 study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that drinking beetroot juice gave participants the stamina to exercise up to 16% longer than when they were given a placebo. This endurance-boosting effect may be attributed to nitrate's ability to regulate oxygen uptake so that exercise feels less exhausting. The participants who consumed beetroot juice also had lower resting blood pressure.
