Certified: Gluten-Free Kosher

Our certified gluten-free teff flour has a unique and mildly nutty flavor, and adds moistness and nutrition to baked goods. Our whole grain teff flour is stone ground from fresh, whole grain teff. Teff is a staple of the Ethiopian diet and a nutritional powerhouse of protein, calcium, and iron. Substitute all or part teff flour in recipes for healthy and delicious pancakes, breads, and baked goods.

There are approximately 3 3/4 cups per pound.

Origins of Teff

The teff grain is believed to have originated between 4000 BC and 1000 BC in Ethiopia, where it is grown and consumed today as a staple. Teff's name is derived from the word for "lost" in the Ethiopian language, Amharic, because the grain is so tiny that if it falls to the floor, it may never be found. In Ethiopian cuisine, teff flour is a primary ingredient in injera, a spongy and crepe-like sourdough bread.

Teff Flour Recipes

For a nutritional boost, substitute teff flour for one-quarter of regular flour in recipes for baked goods. As a whole-grain, baked goods made with teff flour will be denser than those made with white flour. Our recipe for teff pancakes makes a tasty and healthy breakfast, and teff gingerbread is a splendid holiday treat! The unique nutty taste of teff also works exceptionally well in chocolate cake, cookie, and brownie recipes.

“For our first order, we certainly enjoyed opening the carton. Immediately used the teff flour in a gluten free scone recipe the came out fine. We especially like the sturdy bags and reclosing tops which means we can eliminate some additional storage containers.

We expect to be restocking other gluten free flours and starches now that we have "discovered" Nuts.com for ourselves.”

“Your company is lightening fast! I recently started on a gluten free diet and needed various flours in order to bake. In order to get all of the flours, I could have traveled to a couple of starts, but with Nuts.com, I got them all in one place -- no travelling, no aggravation if a store didn't have Teff flour, etc. Thanks for your great service, good prices and quality packaging which allows me to reseal the flour bags. I am very satisfied and grateful for your service!”

“The teff flour arrived a day early so I started experimenting right away. I'm leaving town for a few days so don't have much time but already tried making teff brownies. They turned out okay; I plan to make some changes to the recipe. :-) My goal is to use teff rather than wheat flour because it's so nutritious.”

“I have recently found out that am gluten intolerant. I found this website via Gluten - free on a Shoestring Bakes Bread. I was very happy that am able to order a little at a time while experimenting with recipes. I ordered 1 lb packages and they are resealable (love that). I absolutely love the shipping email - it made my day and I still have it when I need a laugh. I was pleasantly surprised to get a special trial included. I will be a repeat customer!”

“I had just been diagnosed with gluten intolerance 4 days before Christmas and baking is my way of showing love to friends and family (including myself!!) Impulsively, I ordered Teff flour and whole raw nuts and chocolate with no idea or expectations the purchase would arrive in time. BUT!, thanks to your family, my family had a beautiful Teff flour side dish on Christmas Eve! Thank you so MUCH!! Blessings to you at Christmas. We shall meet again in cyber space. What a great market place! Love your offerings!!”

“We received our shipment yesterday and have already enjoyed some of the wonderful snickerdoodle coffee. My son, who has discovered artisan baking, can't wait to use the teff flour and we all enjoyed the veggie chips (Thank you). BY the way we also loved the great box all the goodies came in. We will be ordering again soon. Donna Gardner”
