Organic Quinoa Flakes
Organic quinoa flakes (pronounced keen-wah) was once called "the gold of the Incas" for increasing the stamina of Incan warriors.
Quinoa, the "mother grain," is an extremely nutritious seed. It has a protein value that is extremely high (12-18%) and the protein it supplies is complete protein, meaning that it includes all nine essential amino acids. Because of this, it takes less quinoa protein to meet one's protein need than wheat protein. Quinoa is easy to digest and naturally contains no gluten. It is also a good source of dietary fiber, phosphorous, magnesium, and iron.
Cooking quinoa flakes is easy. You can prepare them on the stove top by bringing 1 cup of water to boil in a saucepan, adding 1/3 cup of quinoa flakes, and letting the quinoa cook for about 90 seconds. Turn off the heat and allow them to cool slightly. The mixture will thicken.
You can also prep them in the microwave by combining 1 cup of water and 1/3 cup of quinoa flakes in a microwave-safe bowl that's twice the volume of the serving size being prepared. Microwave on HIGH for 2 - 2 1/2 minutes until thickened. Stir well before serving.
