Our black tapioca pearls are the perfect "bubbles" in bubble tea, and can also be used in desserts. Also known as boba, black tapioca pearls are small, round balls made from tapioca starch - sweet and somewhat gummy. These are the same boba pearls as those used at gourmet bubble tea shops.

In the 1980s, one Taiwanese tea stand had the bright idea of adding tapioca pearls to their frothy tea drinks to create imaginative and tasty beverages. Because these drinks had bubbles at the top (the froth) and at the bottom (the pearls), they became known as bubble tea. Bubble tea is especially popular in Taiwan, although it is also enjoyed all over the world.

Black tapioca pearls can be added to pretty much any drink to make bubble tea: green tea, black tea, fruit-flavored tea mixes, and even coffee. Bubble tea can be served hot, cold, sweetened, with cream, with milk, or plain. However, the essential element of this versatile drink is the black tapioca pearls that sink to the bottom.

Bubble tea is also known as boba tea, boba drink, pearl tea, black pearl tea, pearl milk tea, and tapioca tea. We also sell bubble tea straws, which are the perfect size to suck up these boba pearls from the bottom of your cup.

Cooking Instructions
1. Boil 8 cups of water.
2. Slowly stir in 1 cup of tapioca pearls.
3. Turn heat to medium and boil for 25 minutes without lid (stir occasionally).
4. Turn off heat, put on lid, and let sit for 30 minutes.
5. Rinse with cool water until tapioca pearls cool down.

“I love these! I like mine a bit softer so I cook them for 35-38 mins and let them cool with the lid on for 30 mins. I make simple syrup by heating 1 part water with 1 part sugar, and leave the pearls in the syrup after I've rinsed them so they don't stick or dry out. I'm reordering a few more this week. This is so much cheaper than buying boba drinks all the time”
